Has anyone any ideas on when the half hourly STP service from Sittingbourne will run?

All: SET are advertising a 'Half Hourly Saturday service' from Sittingbourne to StP via Gravesend on HS1 Will be interesting as this is the first time the trial has run through a normal line. I used the Ebbsfleet shuttle today to avoid the problems with the Sittingbourne signals and noticed the signs on the display regarding a Saturday service between Sittingbourne and St Pancras. On the train back this evening the guard (sorry, Train Manager) handed out new preview timetables effective 21st November (this Saturday). The via Medway service starts then and actually goes as far as Faversham. It is only on Saturdays and is roughly half-hourly from 08:59 till 17:02 with trains back between 10:23 and 18:23. What's interesting is that this is, of course, the 'southeastern highspeed' service. But they haven't been able to slow down the 'classic' services yet (which happens with the new timetable in December). So my choice on Saturday will be between the 08:59 to St Pancras that takes 1 hr 12 mins and the 09:08 to Victoria that takes 1hr 9 mins! Also on the timetable is confirmation that Stratford International will open on 30th November with most Mon-Fri trains calling there - this station is not called at on Saturday or Sunday.

Excellent, thanks for that jumpedup, I'll be travelling on a 395 instead of a 375 for an extra £1.70 for an Off Peak Travelcard on Saturday!

Not an auspicious start. My spies tell me the signals between Gravesend and Ebbsfleet are not working properly and a bus is required on this first North Kent Line day. Thank goodness they didn't leave it ALL to chance on 13th December.

Tell me about it! We had to wait a good half hour before a train could depart back to St Pancras. And all thanks to delays on the Victoria Line, I missed the last 395 to Faversham. In the end I had to settle for a 375/6 filling in for a 465 on the stopper from Victoria.

Well the new Stratford service (started monday) seems to have thrown all their timings out for the new HS1 service.
Instead of being the advertised 17 minutes, it's more like 25! And when they aren't meant to stop at stratford they slow down to a crawl for some reason.
Also the new ticket hall at St Pancras is open, and it's like I've walked into a ghost town (or tube station!). Hardly anyone knows of it's existence perhaps?
Less than 5 minutes from SET platform to Jubilee line platform, rather than nearly 10 minutes.
The last link in the chain is Ebbslfeet International. It's like pedestrian access to the station was an afterthought. Despite being smack in the middle of a large conurbation, there are no footpaths or footbridges to and from the local residential areas or stations. To top it off, the bus services are appalling. Only serving a fraction of the region. Bus stands are wind-traps and cold+dark in the winter and not inviting whatsoever. I have complained to National Rail, but have yet to hear back. SET just pass the buck, as it's not their station.
I shall be travelling to Gravesend as at least that will have cut out a 10 minute bus ride for me.

Annoying re Stratford slowing down but hopefully can be put down to training (after all, it is only a preview service). Good the new tube hall is open at Kings Cross St Pancras but I'd be surprised if you could get to a Jubilee Line platform within 5 minutes - I think the nearest one of those is probably at Baker Street! I've only travelled by car to Ebbsfleet and it's fine for that, apart from the car parking which, at £8 per day (>5 hrs), is too much.

Re: Ebbsfleet, It's £5 now for a working day, if you go to car park (D?) o not quite a s bad. Re: Stratford slowing down. I notice they slow down quite a bit before arriving at Stratford, in the tunnel. They lose quite a bit of time there. Maybe the decelleration of the train is slower than they thought? Train doors opened at St Pancras at 07:53 this morning. As opposed to the old time of 07:48. (it's due at 07:50, so they only ever gave 2 minutes for Stratford anyway). Cheers, Simon

Re: Stratford deceleration/stopping times.
The reason why the Drivers seemingly start braking quite away out from Stratford is due to the in-cab signalling. It's difficult to explain without seeing it in action, but essentially, if the signaller has set the route into the domestic platform at Stratford, the signalling computer will instruct the onboard systems to begin warning the driver to start breaking at a specific point or 'marker' (the equivalent to a signal on a conventional railway).
The markers are the yellow triangles on the blue boards you can see everywhere on the Highspeed Line.
To ensure the driver complies with this, the system displays a warning in the cab, instructing the driver to reduce his/her speed to a set figure, and ensure they stay under that speed limit at the next marker. If the driver does not reduce his/her speed accordingly, and arrives at the next marker and is doing more than 8kph over the indicated speed, the emergency brakes apply and the driver has a lot of explaining to do!
(Hope you're all with me still) ;D
On Section 2 of the HS1 line, the markers are spaced approximately 950m from each other. The signalling equipment will therefore alert the driver 4 markers away that they must not enter the Stratford station area at more than 100kph which is the set linespeed for the domestic platform - so essentially the signalling system forces the driver to take action while he/she is still 3800m (3.8k or 2.3 miles from the station) - and Driver's don't want to have to explain to their Managers why they were caught by the system speeding!
Hope that clears that up - it's not the drivers being slow, just cautious because the signalling tolerances do not allow for much in the way of error.

Has anyone tried the Stratford stop and bus service through a building site, and onward train to Liverpool St? Just wondered if theer were any comments. I have not done it myself as it looks so deserted and I don't want to be stranded there. I did hear that it is running ok. Apparently there is a big area at Stratford station which presumably will have shops and facilities in time for the Olympics. Also the feedback I received was that one's season ticket works at the barriers - see my earlier comment about 'London Stations'/ I queried this with SE some onths ago and was told that I had to but an additional ticket for the one stop to Liv St as 'London Stations' on my ticket only means 'Southeastern's London Stations'?? Can anyone clarify this?
Thank you also Sibod for your advice on how to avoid the bumbling travellers with luggage at StP.
Finally, I don't think I am going to use the fast service going forwrad. The fare for m incl underground is just short of £5,100 which is a 33% increase (inflated because of the additional underground). I am currently only travelling 4 days per wek and we have been told that there will be no pay rises next year so I really cannot justify the additional cost. I know others will be in a similar position.
Also the timing 17.37 means that I will have to leave on the dot of 5pm to get there in time and any hiccup on the tube will mean that I miss it.
Will we be able to 'upgrade' on an ad hoc basis after the trial finishes - does anyone lnow?
I am waiting with trepidation for the new timetable wher ewe have 2 morning trains just a few minutes apart (surely an error) and the current fast train home will be stopping at 5 extra stops. Hopefully it will not be a networker but definitely will be more crowded.
You just can't win with them.

New Kids on the Block is my favourite band of 90s. NKOTB had so many hit songs! The ones I remember are 'Tonight', 'Baby, I Believe In You' and their hit 'Step By Step'. These are real songs, not fake ones like today! And it is awesome they have a tour in 2019! So I'm going to visit New Kids on the Block concert in 2019. The concert dates is here: New Kids on the Block tour Orlando. Open the page and maybe we can even visit one of the performances together!
