I heard an horrifc story this morning about the 6.44pm cannon street service to Ramsgate/Broadstairs.
Apparently it got into Faversham at around 11pm.
Is that right? what happened? Were any other services caught up in this problem?

I heard an horrifc story this morning about the 6.44pm cannon street service to Ramsgate/Broadstairs. Apparently it got into Faversham at around 11pm. Is that right? what happened? Were any other services caught up in this problem? There was a power failure which put the signals out at Newington. It seems to have happened around or just before 1800, and no trains ran between Gillingham and Faversham for about an hour. After that trains had to be talked past the affected signals, so a tremendous queue of trains built up. According to the Southeastern website www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/main.php?page_id=429the 1846 from Cannon Street was 163 minutes late at Herne Bay; the 1903 from Victoria did slightly worse and was 168 minutes late from Sittingbourne.

I was on the 6:46 but am not sure when it reached Faversham. At Gillingham we were eventually moved off the train on to the 6:33 from Victoria which was to leave earlier. We go to Faversham about 10:30.
As we crawled to Gillingham the conductor had a good go at trying to find out what was happening. One passenger told her that some trains ahead had been stopped at Gillingham and there were replacement buses. When she rang up control to ask if this was the case they put the phone down on her!
