Two examples of recent poor communication from SET - on Friday the 16.23 from Victoria was cancelled, due to some fault that could only be rectified by a fitter then at Charing Cross - we all got off the train and trooped over from platform 1 to platform 8 - not the easiest of walks - where a ghastly networker awaited - on a hot day too. Then, dramatically, it was announced that the fault on the old train had been rectified - so the fittest and most determined passengers dashed back to platform one to benefit from a train with less than a quarter of normal passenger numbers. In fairness, I think that in this case the train crew deserve plaudits for fixing the fault, but it was a bit farcicial going back and forth.
Then, this morning, the 06.10 Faversham to Victoria arrived in good time, but most passengers got off - they had been told, via the signalman, that the train was to terminate due to overrunning engineering works at Rainham. Passengers at Faversham were told nothing of this. There was a late running Cannon St Service on platform 1 which apparently was going to run - and there was then a sort of hokey-cokey with passengers getting in and out of the Cannon St service having been given conflicting information - eventually it left - evidently with some people who really wanted to go to Victoria on board, and others who wanted Cannon St (or intermediate stations) left on the platform. The Victoria train then left a little late, but not after the conductress had damned the platform staff over the PA system for their inefficiency and gave them a proper mouthful to their faces!
I do wonder, in this day and age of IT and communication, why SET fail so regularly to provide sufficient infromation when things go just slightly wrong, to minimise any delay.
