Bloke came through the train this morning dishing out a 4 page SET survey. I took the opportunity to copmplete it. Covers questions regarding standard to staff service, car parking, cleansiness etc. However the box for other comments to improve service was tiny. There was no way I could put everything down I wanted too

Becs of Faversham, Dare i ask what else you wished to put down? and given that SET may be paying attention to this board, perhaps here is the place to list those comments.
Perhaps reply to this post with SET Comments for improvement at the top and list of what improvements you would like to see underneath?.
Regards TP

SET Comments for Improvements
I still thinks that there is excessive timetable padding whereby on certain trains we seem to sit at Chatham for 5 mins.
Another issue is being deaf, poor communication when things do go wrong as I cannot rely on hearing the tannoy. The 375 do have the capability for the written display to be altered but I have yet to see a guard use this as opposed to just the tannoy - a training issue?
I also understood the SET was putting platform loop systems for each station to halep the deaf hear the tannoys better. I know in a couple of stations where they are (as I was involved in some pilot) but there is still no communication regarding this.
I also have reservations regarding the high speed domestic rail link next year (will not use as go to Cannon St) and the likley changes to the timetable for the existing domestic service. I think take up of the HS link will not be a great as they think. I have already regestered my concerns on this with my MP and SET previously.
Also the set up of the car park sytem at Canterbury West is not very good between SET and Meteor. In order to prevent tourists taking up all the car parking the stanrdard charge is £6.80 but reduced significantly with a refund from ticket office to £2.20 on production of rail ticket. Great except for those times when you travel and ticket office is shut. To get refund means a separate journey to ticket office at another time. It's just extra hassle. I wonder how many people actually give up inflating the pockets of meteor.

Becs, Thanks for taking the time to post, interesting issues raised, lets see if SET do anything about them. I would urge other posters, be they registered or guests or even people just reading this, to post what improvements they want to see. You don't have to register, just post.
Regards TP

Definitely improve their information systems when there is a problem. Some time ago I stood on Birchington station waiting for a train that was 50 minutes late. There was no-one on the station, no announcements and the indicator board wasn't working. We only found out what was happening when another passenger phoned her husband who checked on the internet. The customer services replies to my comments were not hugely helpful either
I agree with Becs about the high speed link. Although I'll be (hopefully) giving up commuting before it begins I still hope that they continue a good service into Charing X and Victoria on the classic route.
I'd like quiet carriages - no phones, no computers etc etc. I'd like to say no noisy kids either but that may not be so popular
I'd also welcome (and this is a selfish one so perhaps should be discounted) a rule that cheap day returns (or whatever they are called now) are not valid on peak trains on both legs of the journey. SER have published their high volume trains. I am on one both in and out of London and it can be a bit annoying to find them packed with "day trippers". But, as I say, that is a rather self centered one!!

Hello everyone! So many issues but for now most importamt:
High Speed trains to St Pancras. I agree with Becs and think the take up has been overestimated. I desperately hope SE will send some commuter trains in and out of Cannon St (I travel from Folkestone via Ashford and Tonbridge).
Notwitstanding the hype and threats to scrap Cannon St trains to/from Dover/Folkestone I have not met any City commuters will use St Pancras - out of all the people I travel with and work with.
Second point is Networker trains being used for long distance journeys. Whatever SE may say to justify this - they are not designed for fast journeys with long distances between stops. They may be ok to chug for a few minutes between stations with doors opening/closing to ventilate but on a 90 minute journey with 4 stops they are unbearable. We will shortly be in the fainting/drinking water/stripping off as many clothes as possible season. I am dreading it. Believe me it is exhausting to travel on them after a hard day's work in London in the heat. Also I hate the shrill announcements, general filthy state, loud rattling noise making any kind of conversation difficult and at high speeds they jolt and rattle and make one feel extremely uncomfortable. Please may we have an electrostar on for the 17.44 - all other long distance trains are Electrostars - why should we be punished?

I regularly fill in their survey forms and the 4-pager is an improvement on the previous card.
For those who are tempted to fill out the further comments boxes a small trick of the survey trade (and I analyse other surveys as part of my job) is that further comments rarely get read or used. Analysis is not normally done by the organisation commissioning the survey (SET in this case) so a survey house will report x% filled in the box with y different answers, of which the most common was ****.
However, more usefully, the survey form gives people the opportunity to put down postcodes of start and finish points. Therefore SET should be able to find out how many survey respondents are travelling to destinations within walking distance of London terminals, and how many near St Pancras.
The main use of these surveys is for measures of customer satisfaction which they do report.
I'd agree with becsfaversham about what I understand to be called 'dwell time' at stations - in particular the 8-10 minutes my morning train (the 8:25 ex Gillingham) spends at Bromley South every morning. In fact that one should not be called fast as it takes over an hour into London, gently dawdling along trying to avoid going at any speed, followed by the coffee break at Bromley, and then taking the scenic route via Catford. The following slow train takes the same time (give or take a minute) while stopping at all stations to St Mary Cray.
