Anybody got any yet? I had my third cab home last night, due to cancellations. Filled in the form a couple of weeks ago, heard nothing yet and my annual season ticket is up for renewal in a week.

Is it safe to come out yet? I sent a form off a couple of weeks ago too, but imagine that it will take SET several weeks to fight their way through the mountain of paper. It took me almost 5 hours to get home on Monday, through train cancellations, but largely through no information - I (and others) sat at CHX for nearly 2 hours waiting for a Ramsgate train - all cancelled and no info at all. And I think that's the big gripe - we know they can't help the weather, but it would lovely if they could let us poor paying passengers know how we are to get home! Right, I'm going to stop moaning now!

Finally had a reply, full of the usual, "not our fault/problem, it was Network Rail" However I don't buy my ticket from network rail, I buy it from SouthEastern! Their performance figures: www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/about-us/performance-figures/seem to suggest a 5% discount though. But what about the (over) £300 I have had to spend on taxis!!

Xmas comes but once a year and now it seems to snow and everywhere we need to be South Eastern doesn't go.
The snow it comes and coats the rails It's quite a mystery How problems and excuses Never cease to be
But smile my friends We're over the hill and on the downward run when Sarah at South Eastern can blame the b***** sun!!
And a very happy Xmas to all and blessings for 2011

Southeasterns Mainline service are at 82.04% so no compensation for anyone. Also, by running some trains on a limited timetable their performance figures will go up as the figures are based on the amount of trains they plan on running that day - bring in a contigency timetable and you are running a lot less.

That's convenient! According to their website though, it's 82% dead on. Anyway that should be rounded down as it's less than a 1/2%. Disgraceful behaviour by a bunch of shysters!

Had a letter yesterday fro Southeastern, apologising for the disruption in December, also apologising for the time it has taken getting back to me, as they had a higher than usual volume of applications regarding compensation, you don't say! Anyway, by way of an apology they have sent me £50 of M&S vouchers! I don't know whether to laugh or cry! As far as my taxis fares however, they need more time to consider this! Waht a bunch of jokers!!

I am one of the (no doubt) many people who have received M&S vouchers from Southeastern in response to a request for compensation for the disruption during the snow. What's more, in their standard letter Southeastern fall back on the "compensation will only be provided in the form of season ticket discounts if we fail to meet the Passenger Charter targets" argument.
I find this a little odd given that Southeastern provided compensation in a straightforward form when they failed to run a train service due to snow on Monday 2nd February 2009. This involved sending off a form and receiving a cheque (in my case for £10.54, based on the value of my season ticket and the notion of the season ticken representing 260 days of travel). On that occasion it seemed to be implied that the passenger was entitled to compensation, whereas on this occasion they seem to be arguing that no compensation is payable but dishing out a few M&S vouchers to those who made the effort to complaint (no straightforward form was provided this time - it seems deliberately).
Does anybody on this forum know what compensation, if any, a train company is obliged to pay out if they fail to run a train service at all on a given day? £30 in M&S vouchers is sort of ok, but I would have preferred cash and less trouble in extracting the compensation.

Sorry about the last message that does not make sense! It should go as follows:
I can't say I would be impressed with getting M&S vouchers as I don't like shopping there. It does remind me of a comment made by a Conservative prior to the railway privatisation bill was passed to the effect that the railways would benefit from being run like M&S. I thought it was pretty ironic that a few years later M&S became a byword of how not to run a retail empire!

I would be more impressed if Southeastern followed the example of some of the TOC’s who gave the compensation money they received from Network Rail and gave all or a part of this to the season ticket holders, rather boosting their shareholders profits. I think giving the odd M&S voucher away they getting away with it rather lightly

Good news Paolo,
Southeastern have started the 'delay and pay' scheme. This scheme will compensate customers that are delayed by more than 30 minutes. It will refund 50% of the cost of the journey. Any delay more than an hour you can claim 100% of the cost of your journey. This scheme will be introduced in the summer, the earliest this will be implemented is July. A couple of other points,Southeastern will have the franchise until at least 31st March 2014. The high speed service from Maidstone west will start on the 23rd of May 2011.
